Special Class Placement
Special class placement is available for students with diagnosed learning differences or disabilities. To qualify for special class placement, a complete diagnostic evaluation (Psycho-educational Battery of Tests) must document the need for special class placement and the parents must give written consent. There is an additional charge for special class placement.
Special class placement includes:
-
Individual Education Plan (IEP)
The IEP states the goals for the student and the DIC class(es). At the elementary level, the goals are based on needed academic skills. At the secondary level, the goals are based on needed academic skills within the framework of required academic courses. Each IEP also states the necessary accommodations for the student’s successful completion of regular, mainstream classes. Elementary IEPs are written at the beginning of each school year and reviewed at the end of each school year. Secondary IEPs are written in the spring for the following school year and reviewed each spring. New students’ IEPs are written at the beginning of their enrollment in a DIC class.
-
Yearly individual achievement testing
The Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement are administered yearly to monitor and document each student’s progress. The results are reviewed with parents in the spring.
-
Limited class size
Each DIC class is limited to no more than 10 students.
-
Highly trained and certified teachers
Each teacher is highly trained (some with advanced degrees) and certified to meet the diverse and unique needs of the students. Each teacher is also highly qualified by the State of Oklahoma in his/her specific subject area.
