How is Metro Christian Academy organized?
Tulsa Christian Education Corporation (TCEC), an Oklahoma corporation, does business as “Metro Christian Academy” and is a not for profit organization pursuant to Internal Revenue Code 501 (c) (3).

The Board of Trustees of TCEC consists of 3-15 members who serve staggered terms of office.  The Trustees have power to conduct the business and affairs of the Corporation; to establish standing committees and such other ad hoc committees as it may deem necessary and proper to adequately conduct the ongoing affairs and administration of Metro; to approve plans for the work of the committees; to approve or disapprove the hiring and discharging of the Headmaster and all principals and senior administrative personnel; to appoint counsel; to establish operational policies and procedures; to approve curricula; to approve financial reports, budgets and the like; to establish the authority of administrative personnel to incur and pay obligations; and to do all other acts necessary in connection with the business of Metro.  The Trustees meet monthly.

The Officers of TCEC consist of the Chairman of the Board, Chairman-Elect, one corporate secretary, one treasurer, and such other officers as the Board may determine.

The Headmaster serves as the chief operating and superintending officer of Metro Christian Academy and performs the duties and responsibilities, which implement the policies of the Board.  He supervises the business and work of all other employees of the school as well as performs all other duties as the Board may, from time to time, direct.

Standing Committees are responsible for the actual governance of the school.  The chairman, subject to approval by the Board of Trustees, appoints the standing committees.  The Board charges each committee with its respective responsibilities and authority. The Board President has authority to appoint other ad hoc committees as needed.

Meetings:
All regular Board meetings shall be open to parents, patrons, teachers, and students of Metro Christian Academy, and the agenda shall include opportunity for comments from those in attendance.  Personnel matters and other matters which, by a two-thirds vote of the Trustees present and voting, are deemed to be private, will be addressed in executive session with the attendance of only invited guests. Board meetings are held monthly, and a schedule of meetings and the agenda for meetings can be obtained from the Headmaster’s office.  Advisory Board Members also attend Board meetings, and fully participate in the discussions and deliberations of the Board, as non-voting members.

Facts about the Trustees

  • Trustees are elected by parents/guardians of students currently enrolled in school.
  • Trustees are not paid for their services.
  • The Trustees are a policy-making body, not an administrative one. They are not charged with the day-to-day operation of the school.  The Trustees employ a Headmaster to carry out the day-to-day operations of the school.
  • Trustees have no authority to make decisions outside of an official Trustee meeting.  In other words, they only have power as a “body.”  They are not authorized to take personal or “unilateral” action (an individual Trustee cannot look into unfair grading, or get students’ schedules changed, etc.)
  • The Trustees are a governing body – adopting, as a group, school policies, rules and regulations.
  • The Trustees do not take action on items that do not appear on the agenda.
  • Trustees are committed to policies benefiting the entire school, not to “single issue” agendas.
