METRO CHEER WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

For what we believe is the first time in Metro’s athletic history, a competitive squad has won a National Championship!

Congratulations to the Metro Varsity Cheerleaders, American Spirit Championships, National Champions, and Grand Champions! The girls competed against numerous squads and came out as champions.

On Saturday, January 30, they competed against Booker T. Washington for the National Champions title, and competed against all school squads on Sunday, January 31, to win the Grand Champions title. The competitions were held in Oklahoma City.

The squad of 19 worked hard this year, cheering at football and basketball games, in addition to winning OSSAA and ASC competitions.

The Metro cheerleaders were also recognized with the “Distinguished Academic Plaque” from the OSSAA. This academic recognition is given to a squad that has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and ranked in the upper ten percent of their classification. The OSSAA recognizes that academic success is a result of dedicated administrators, teachers, and students.

Congratulations to the Metro squad and Head Coach Brad Turner and Assistant Coach Dayna Glover. Danielle Watson also assists the cheer program as the teacher/certified staff representative.

Metro Cheerleaders will present the championship trophy to the school administration at the home basketball game this coming Friday, February 5 vs. Fort Gibson.

Metro Varsity Cheerleaders are:

Seniors: Sarah Jackson, Jessie Pals, Haley Vogt
